Are you struggling to engage your audience on social media?

If this sounds like you, you’re in the right place. Today I want to talk about 3 ways to increase engagement for your social media posts. These tactics come from Justin Welsh, you may know him from the Content Operating System. He helps business owners grow and monetize their online businesses. In this post, I am going to walk you step by step through 3 best practices to increase audience engagement with your social media content and keep them coming back for more.

You Don't Want Useless Content

Let’s face it. If you’re posting content on social media, but it’s not getting much engagement, it’s basically useless. It’s sort of just floating out there in digital space.

We want to use our social media content to reach and resonate with our audience, engage with them, and ultimately turn them into potential clients. Last post, we talked about 3 tips to market your pelvic health physical therapy practice. In this post, we are sort of building off of those concepts. As a pelvic health practice owner, you know what it is that you need to be marketing, now let's add some strategy to doing so.

Post on Social Media at the Same Time Every Day

Step one: pick a time to post.

Whether it’s 7am or 6pm, post at that same time every day. This consistency allows your followers to anticipate when you will be putting out content or new information.

Real talk, we all like consistency, it’s human nature. Posting at the same time each day, it takes the guesswork out of the equation for your audience, helping them be better prepared to engage.

Find Yourself a Content Buddy

Step two: find yourself a content buddy.

What is this you ask? A content buddy is preferably someone who is also in a similar field or industry as you. So if you’re a pelvic health physical therapist, partner up with another pelvic health PT friend of yours. How this works is your content buddy knows ahead of time the day and time you are going to be posting. Once you post, they get on and comment on your post about something of value. For example, they may ask a question or say “Tell me more about…” to get a conversation going. Of course, you are going to engage with them and comment back.

This is fun because you have someone you know who is in it with you when it comes to putting out your content. Oftentimes, once your content buddy starts that initial conversation, and your followers can see you’re engaging with your comments, your followers will feel more comfortable doing so also.

*Side note: you will do this same process for your content buddy. Again, it’s kind of fun to have someone in on it with you.

Block Out Time to Engage with Your Audience

Step three: once you decide your time of day to post, you are going to block out an hour of time following the posting to comment back and engage with your audience.

This is another one of those consistency things. If your audience knows what time you post every day, as well as when they are most likely to get an answer to their questions from you, they’re more like to show up and engage. Take this hour of time to answer questions & provide responses of value.

Directly engaging with your audience on your own content, especially during a set time each day you post, helps to humanize you. Instead of it seeming like you are just “some business owner” and your audience is intimidated by you, they will see you being just like one of them (which you are). This helps your audience to feel like you’re more approachable, which is what we want.

A Real-Life Example of These Tactics

Moving into an example. We have definitely seen positive results with implementing these strategies as digital marketing consultants.

One of the clients I create content for in collaboration with Morgan Meese at M&M Creative has definitely seen benefits from these tactics. Over the past 90 days with us implementing these strategies, this client's LinkedIn profile has had:

  • Over 14,000 impressions

  • 324 engagements

  • 154 profile views

  • And gained several new followers

So, if you’re trying to reach your audience and engage with them via your social media platforms, these 3 basic tips could help you. The better you are able to reach and engage with your audience, the more likely you are to have new leads, and the more likely those new leads result in new clients.
